The Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) carried out a fire safety awareness campaign in the densely populated township of West Point, aiming to educate residents on fire prevention measures and emergency response techniques.
The event brought together community members, local leaders, and LNFS officials, including the agency’s senior management team.
Demonstrations on the use of fire extinguishers, safe cooking practices, and how to respond in the event of a fire were key highlights of the awareness drive.
As part of their visit, the senior management team also paid a compassionate visit to a local family that was recently affected by a devastating fire disaster.
The incident, which occurred last week, completely destroyed a 10-bedroom house, displacing multiple families and leaving them without shelter or belongings.
Speaking during the outreach, LNFS Chief, G Wasuwah Barvoul, expressed sympathy for the victims and reiterated the agency’s commitment to strengthening fire prevention efforts across urban communities.
“Our hearts go out to the families who lost their homes in this tragic incident,” he said. “It’s a reminder of why we must continue to engage communities with safety education and build their capacity to respond to fires.”
The fire victims received assorted relief items from the LNFS team, including mattresses, food supplies, and clothing — a gesture the residents described as timely and deeply appreciated.
Local leaders in West Point commended the initiative, urging that similar efforts be expanded to other at-risk communities across Liberia.
The LNFS has pledged to continue its public education campaigns in high-density areas as part of a nationwide fire prevention strategy.
