The Superintendent of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), Madam Winifred Guah , others are to shortly appear in court in the county .
Speaking to the Inquirer, Pastor Charles Cooper, further disclosed that the lawsuit against the local LMA authorities is to turn the Gompa general market over to GMA in Nimba.
According to Cooper the chief elders of Bain-Garr district in Gompa donated five acres of land to government to build a modern market and turned it over to GMA for the smooth running of the market.
” LMA authorities forcefully took over the market by dismissing our GMA superintendent Tennis Youh, and having her replaced with the present LMA superintendent without due respect to the elders and chief of this district,” pastor Cooper pointed out.
The Gompa Marketing Association (GMA) backed by traditional chief elders is represented by Nathan Suah , Nyan Gonlepa verses LMA represented by its county superintendent Winifred Guah .
Gompa general market commonly known as former President Ellen Johnson Market Project formed part of UP’s political campaign project during her second term after declaring the disputed Gompa market spot (Nyankorma Quarter) eminent domain which led to the transfer of the market to Deakehmehn Community in Ganta .
During the beginning of February 2025, Superintendent Kou Gono instructed Daniel Zekpeh to conduct investigation between LMA on the other hand and GMA on the other, claiming ownership of the market, but the investigation board found GMA guilty.
When contacted the Gompa market superintendent says ownership confusion over the market between the LMA and GMA backed by the elders is hampering the smooth running of the market.
“We are now stranded in this case and looking to the government for justice. The elders willingly donated this place to government for a market and they are demanding ownership in the name of GMA backed by the chief elders who willingly donated the area, LMA Gompa Superintendent stated .
When Inquirer contacted the LMA central office in Sanniquellie over the weekend, the county Superintendent Winifred Guah confirmed the lawsuit filed against LMA by the GMA that is backed by chief elders of Bain-Garr in Nimba.
“Yes, the information is true , GMA has filed lawsuit against LMA claiming ownership of the market building, alleging that we forcefully took over the market from GMA , ” LMA Superintendent Guah revealed .
“The case is now before the 8th. Judicial circuit court in Sanniquellie ,. we will be appearing during the May Term of Court ,” LMA Superintendent Winifred Guah stated .
Investigations continue.
