The president of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA), Elizabeth F. Sambollah, has indefinitely suspended Madam Lusu K. Crawford as Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
Citing series of alleged misconducts and violations of organizational protocols, the official suspension letter dated April 1, 2025, stated that Madam Crawford’s removal was triggered by “gross indecent conduct,” including what the president described as a public outburst and disrespectful behavior during a recent incident in the Office of the President.
The communication stated that such actions are not only unprofessional but also undermine the integrity of the Association’s leadership.
Madam Crawford is accused of persistently failing to submit quarterly reports to the National Executive Committee (NEC), a core requirement of her position.
The letter also highlights her alleged violations of the Association’s governance principles, emphasizing that as a former president herself, she was expected to lead by example.
A subsequent press release issued on April 10, 2025, reinforced the decision, elaborating on the infractions attributed to Madam Crawford.
These include openly defying the authority of the president, refusal to take instructions, and the use of “streams of invective” in the presence of the president—an act the leadership deemed unacceptable.
“The continued abuse and gross insubordination demonstrated toward the president of the Association will not and cannot be tolerated,” the statement reads.
The LMA president stressed that the Association’s constitution provides clear distinctions of authority among its elected officials and places oversight responsibility squarely on the office of the President, specifically referencing Chapter 4, Article 5, Section 3.
Madam Sambollah has called on all market authorities, staff, and marketers to remain calm and committed to their duties as the leadership engages stakeholders to restore harmony within the Association.
As per the suspension order, Madam Crawford has been instructed to hand over all official documents and assets and is barred from accessing LMA offices until further notice.
Efforts to contact Madam Crawford for a response were unsuccessful as of press time. However, sources close to the suspended Chair say she may issue a statement in the coming days.
The situation has drawn mixed reactions from within the marketing community, with some calling for reconciliation and others backing the firmed disciplinary stance taken by the current leadership.
