The Liberia Medical Mission (LMM) has launched a new initiative aimed at offering free medical treatment to hundreds of underprivileged Liberians.

This program, which focuses on providing vital healthcare services, was officially introduced at a press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT).

The initiative highlights LMM’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare access in underserved communities throughout Liberia.

Joseph Sackor, Chairman of LMM, reiterated the organization’s dedication to strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system. “We are a non-profit organization, self-funded, and driven by our love for this country. That’s why we are committed to giving back,” he said.

Launched on February 21, 2025, the mission has brought together a diverse team of 26 medical professionals from the United States, Canada, Europe, and other regions. The team is providing free services, including cataract surgeries, mental health awareness programs, and general medical checkups.

The initiative will extend its benefits to five counties: Gbarpolu, Cape Mount, Bomi, Grand Bassa, and Montserrado.

As part of their larger mission, LMM has also imported over US$500,000 worth of medical supplies and equipment to bolster the capacity of local healthcare facilities. This donation reflects the organization’s broad approach to healthcare improvement, addressing both immediate medical needs and long-term infrastructural challenges.

Chairman Sackor also announced a new partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) through its Diaspora Engagement Project, which encourages skilled professionals living abroad to return and contribute to Liberia’s development. “This collaboration will inspire more professionals abroad to come back and help Liberia grow,” he noted.

Despite facing challenges such as poor road conditions that limit access to remote areas, LMM remains committed to ensuring healthcare services reach even the most isolated populations. The organization is working alongside the UNHCR and other agencies to distribute medical supplies to these hard-to-reach areas. Through its outreach efforts, training programs, and strategic partnerships, the Liberia Medical Mission is making a significant impact on the healthcare system in Liberia, working tirelessly to improve the well-being of thousands of Liberians.
