LDEA Tightens Borders In Nimba

By Solomon T. Gaye-Nimba
The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency’s (LDEA) central office in Sanniquellie, Nimba County, says it has tightened the borders in that part of the county in order to prevent the smuggling of illicit drugs and other harmful related drugs into the country.
Speaking over the weekend without detailing the specified actions, the acting Commander, Malison Gaylah, said the actions are designed to curtail trafficking of drugs and other contrabands in and out of the country.
According to Commander Gaylah, the LDEA sent to court four high profiled drug cases though pending trial, all suspects are presently behind bars at the Central Prison in Sanniquellie.
“We lack vehicles; we sometimes patrol the borders in a convoy of motorbikes to crack down drug dealers, drug users and we even hooked a Ghanaian with marijuana in December 2024 at Loguatuo Border while in route to Monrovia,” the LDEA’s acting commander pointed out.
Nimba County is comprised of nine electoral districts but many of the districts like Yarwin Mansonnon, Lao, Buyao, Kparblee and others lacked the presence of assigned state security to maintain law and order, among other things.
Gaylah further called on the residents to report to the state security or local authorities in the county anyone engaged in peddling and or selling of illegal or harmful drugs.
Speaking on behalf of Deakehmehn Community in Gompa, Pastor Henry Paul, called on residents of the community to advise their children to do away with the use of narcotics, heroin, or drugs that are dangerous to the body.
“We welcome the LDEA’s action to arrest anybody caught with drugs,” Pastor Paul stated.
