The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) continues to make significant strides in its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking and abuse, with a series of major arrests and drug seizures across the country in recent days.
On the morning of April 11, 2025, at approximately 7:15 AM, the LDEA River Gee County Detachment made a significant arrest at the Tienpo Nyeuken Checkpoint.
Suspect Frank Agbata, a 43-year-old Nigerian national, was apprehended in possession of multiple illegal substances.
Seized from Agbata were 27.9 grams of Kush, 1.4 kilograms of Marijuana (equivalent to one and a half plates), and 31 scripts of Tramadol.
The combined estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is US $1,332.52 or LR$ 253,178.00.
The suspect was immediately turned over to the LDEA investigation unit for further inquiry and will be formally charged and forwarded to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Just two days earlier, on April 9, 2025, the LDEA River Gee County Detachment, working in partnership with the Nonken Magisterial Court, executed a search and seizure operation in the gold-rich Chegbo Field.
The raid was led by the detachment’s Deputy Commander and a Court Sheriff.
The operation targeted three residences in the village, with illegal drugs found in one.
Suspect Albert Wion, a 20-year-old Liberian gold miner, was arrested after authorities discovered 34 wraps of Kush, 6 wraps of Marijuana, and 12 pills of Tramadol in his home.
The street value of the narcotics was estimated at US$49.00 or LR$9,310.00. Wion was turned over to LDEA investigators and will be formally charged in accordance with Liberian law.
In Bong County, the LDEA in collaboration with the Liberia National Police arrested 22-year-old Elijah Kollah, a resident of Monrovia, on April 8, 2025.
Kollah was intercepted at the Totota City parking station while en route to Sanoyea District.
He was found in possession of seven packs of Tramadol with an estimated street value of US$350.00 or LR$66,500.00.
The LDEA formally took custody of Kollah on April 10, 2025, and he has since been charged and will face prosecution.
The LDEA has reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating the trafficking and use of illegal drugs throughout Liberia.
These recent arrests underscore the agency’s proactive approach in protecting communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
“The LDEA remains vigilant and determined to rid our communities of dangerous substances and ensure that the law is upheld across all counties,” a statement from the agency said.
Investigations into each of the cases are ongoing as suspects await formal court proceedings.
