Nimba County District 5 Representative Samuel Kogar is the successor of the county’s godfather Prince Y. Johnson at the Liberian Senate following a landmark victory obtained in the 2025 by an election held in the county.
April 22, electorates in the country’s second populated county went to the poll and voted in a majority fission Representative Kogar to fill the vacancy created by the death of PYJ.
Results from the election revealed that more than half of the total number of eligible voters went in the interest of promoting Kogar to the senate creating another vacant seat at the house of Representative.
He obtained total of 62,136 votes constituting 52.08% of while his lead contender Edith Gongloe-Weh obtained 40,506 votes constituting 33.95%.
The vote margin between the two top candidates ended at 21, 630 which pundits believed were heavily influenced by the support of the current administration through the office of Vice President Jeremiah Koung against the lone female in the race.
Minutes prior to the release of the final results by the National Election Commission, who contested Independently conceded defeat congratulating Representative Kogar, who was in a commanding lead based on provisional results released by the NEC after 92% of the votes were counted.
Meanwhile the NEC officially announced Representative Kogar as the winner of the Nimba County Senatorial By-election, following the completion of the final vote tally.
NEC Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lansanah made the declaration on Thursday, confirming that Kogar, the candidate of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR), secured 62,136 votes, amounting to 52.08% of the total valid votes cast across all 736 polling places in the county.
