The Joint Security of Foya District, led by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Lofa County Commander, has intercepted a major drug shipment valued at US$77,200.
The seizure occurred at approximately 10:45 PM on March 17, 2025, following a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle traveling through Lofa County from Sierra Leone to Monrovia.
According to an official release from the LDEA, the Joint Security acted swiftly after receiving information about a black pickup truck with Liberian license plate A533348 suspected of transporting narcotics.
The team intercepted the vehicle and escorted it to the Foya Police Station for a thorough inspection.
The driver, identified as Fayiah Lamie, a 43-year-old male from the Mendi tribe and a resident of Monrovia, initially claimed he was transporting clothes and slippers for sale.
However, a detailed search of the vehicle uncovered 772 plates of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of US$77,200 equivalent to L$14,668,000.
Additionally, authorities discovered eight boxes of Tramadol valued at US$842 and equivalent of L$160,000.
Following the discovery, Lamie was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
He is currently undergoing investigation and is expected to be formally charged and sent to court in the coming days.
The LDEA commended the swift action and coordination of the Joint Security team, emphasizing that the operation reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to curbing drug trafficking and protecting the Liberian public from the harmful effects of narcotics.
“This successful operation underscores our determination to root out drug trafficking networks operating within and across our borders,” the LDEA statement noted.
“We remain vigilant and committed to ensuring that those involved in the illegal drug trade face the full weight of the law.”
Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify any additional individuals linked to the intercepted consignment of drugs.
