Inquirer Celebrates 29 Years Of Existence

The Inquirer Newspaper, literally birthed out of the Daily Observer Newspaper, clocks 29 years today as Liberia’s only post war surviving newspaper on the news stand.The brains at the time when the paper was established in 1991 were molded from the newsroom of the Observer which was shut down temporarily as a result of the Liberian civil conflict that started in the country in 1989.
Last year at about this same time, the institution witnessed its first nightmare in 28 years, which was the exodus of seven staff unprecedentedly and which could have rendered the paper handicapped in its production as a daily newspaper.
However, due to the human relations and learning-style leadership of the management under the supervision of Atty. Philip N. Wesseh, many others who heard the news could not hold back their expertise but to offer assistance, yet still others who have drunk from the fountain of this leadership style immediately took it upon themselves as a matter of obligation to return and today the paper remains strong and more vibrant.
Those who left the institution at the time ranged from long-service editors, reporters as well as layout/ internet technicians; even though some notified the management earlier of their departure but others just refused to show up at work; little did the management know that those who left had already established themselves and today they have congregated under a new name.
Mr. Wesseh, though not satisfied with the manner and form of their departure, commended them for their contributions made to the Inquirer in their respective positions and noted, “They took the decision to leave, for which I must respect. I will always remember them for their services rendered.”
Even though the paper’s Managing Editor wished his former staff well, he stated that their action was a great shock to him especially at the time it was taken.
Meanwhile, in keeping with its tradition, the institution will join the congregation of the House of Testimony, the Christians Interdenominational Assemblies (CHRIDA), located behind the former 101 Gas Station in Duport Road on Sunday, January 19, in its regular worship service to again offer thanks to God for his wonderful blessing in all these 29 years of existence.
