The Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) has begun a two-day training for over 30 staff including its field monitors and other key staff on human rights monitoring, investigation and reporting.
The training which runs from April 9-10, 2025, is being held in Monrovia.
Speaking at the launch of the program, the chairperson of the INCHR, T. Dempster Browne, described the exercise as a session intended to build the capacity of field monitors who are the first contact of the INCHR in the counties.
He said, “This training is intended to enhance your capacity and competence as INCHR field monitors and staff in thematic human rights monitoring, standardized human rights reporting and up to date documentation of issues emanating from human rights monitoring and investigation of abuses and/or violations that are reported.”
The INCHR Chairperson further emphasized that the training will familiarize participants with the usage of the new INCHR reporting template.
“This training is essential for our field monitors as it will keep staff abreast with strategy and mechanisms relative to monitoring specific human rights issue and at the same time acquaint them with national, regional and international human rights principles and frameworks,” Browne said.
Chairman Browne encouraged participants to use the knowledge gained as a tool to enhancing their work in the field and as well work with other stakeholders including national and international partners, as reports coming from the field determine and validate the credibility of the Commission.
“This training is for you and I want you to use knowledge gained and shared here as your working tool in your various counties,” he added.
The Independent National Commission on Human Rights is the lead human rights institution in Liberia with the mandate to monitor, investigate and report on the human situation in the country.
