The Minister of State for Presidential Affairs and Chief of Staff of the
President has pledged Government’s commitment to Trade Facilitation at the African Export-Import Bank AFREXIMBANK commissioning ceremony in Abuja.
The ceremony, held in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday, April 10, 2025, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including government officials, AFREXIMBANK Representatives, private sector and development partners to reinforce Liberia’s commitment to enhance trade and economic development through strategic partnerships and to promote Intra-African Trade.
Sylvester M. Grigsby addressing the AFREXIMBANK Commissioning Ceremony, conveyed warm greetings from President Boakai, and underscored his government’s unwavering commitment to facilitating trade and strengthening partnerships that enhance economic growth.
During the ceremony, Minister Grigsby emphasized the vital role of trade in fostering economic resilience and ensuring sustainable development, adding, “In today’s interconnected world, the facilitation of trade is not just an economic necessity, but also a strategic imperative for our nation.”
He further indicated that the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for trade and commerce is paramount, stressing, “We are determined to forge strong partnership that will benefit our country and its people.”
The AFREXIMBANK, a premier pan-African multilateral trade finance institution, plays a crucial role in supporting African countries to increase their trade capacity and integration into the global economy.
Minister Grigsby highlighted the significance of promoting Intra-African trade and providing the necessary financial resources to support development, noting,
“In collaborating with AFREXIMBANK, we are not only enhancing our trade capabilities, but also promoting financial inclusion and empowering local businesses,” he noted.
“President Boakai government recognizes that small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) are the backbone of our economy through strategic partnerships,” he mentioned.
He added, the government is committed to implementing policies that will simplify trade processes, reduce tariffs, and eliminate barriers to entry for businesses.
“We understand the challenges that traders face, and we are dedicated to creating a more streamlined and efficient trade environment,” he added. Minister Grigsby urged all stakeholders to join hands in pursuing a shared vision of economic prosperity through enhanced trade.
According to Minister Grigsby, it is only through collaboration and mutual support that they can overcome the challenges they face as a continent.
Meanwhile, the commissioning of AFREXIMBANK marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to bolster economic growth through strategic partnerships.
