The Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Liberia has embarked on a nationwide leadership training initiative for its pastors and leaders.
Making the disclosure to the Inquirer Newspaper via mobile phone recently, the Chairperson of the Transitional Committee Advisory Team (TCAT) of the GMC in Liberia, Rev. Jerry P. Kulah, I., said the initiative began in Harper, Maryland County from March 26-30, 2025.
He stated that Harper’s training was attended by GMC’s pastors and leaders from evolving districts such as the River Gee District, the Grand Kru District, and the Cavalla River District.
According to him, there is also training ongoing in Ganta, Nimba County GMC’s pastors and leaders from Mount Nimba, Bong, Mount Gibi, and Guinea Districts in attendance, and is set to conclude on April 5, 2025.
He noted that plans are underway for another training that will benefit pastors and leaders of the church from Gbehzohn and Cestos River Districts and will be followed by Christopolis district as well as other districts in western Liberia.
Rev. Kulah narrated that these different trainings are intended to prepare the church ahead of its convening conference expected to be held in July this year.
He said at the GMC’s convening conference, appointments of successful leaders will be made by Bishop Dr. John Pena Auta, Episcopal leader of the Liberia Global Methodist Church noting that research is being conducted to identify the conference’s venue.
Kulah stated that after the training, TCAT will know who is qualified to serve as presiding elders or what used to be called district superintendent in the old order.
He said the training sessions focus on leadership, structural and functions of the book of doctrine–constitution, and the discipline of the Global Methodist Church coupled with training in ordination.
“There are potential candidates to be ordained in the convening conference” he revealed.
The GMC Transitional Committee Advisory Team Chairperson narrated that the church wants its members, pastors, and leaders to know their constitution in order to be able to function effectively.
The facilitators at the different training sessions include Rev. Rose R. Farhart, Rev. Dr. Julius Julukon Sarwolo Nelson, Rev. Dr. Jerry P. Kulah, I., Rev. Dr. Julius YZK Williams, I., Rev. Allen Paye, and Rev. Ebenezer M. Belleh, among others.
Meanwhile, Rev. Kulah has bragged about the rapid spreading of the church across Liberia. He mentioned that the GMC as a church that was birthed on February 14, 2025, now has 13 districts across the country.
Kulah listed some of the districts as the Cavalla River District, Grand Kru District, Dukpeh River District, River Gee District, Margibi District, the Bong District, Gbehzohn District, Cestos District, Christopolis District, and the Mount Nimba District among others.
He furthered that the GMC gathers and forms into districts large concentration of its churches and as the result of that, the districts named above have been established.
Rev. Kulah concluded that the GMC has been warmly received by the Liberian community despite misinformation on the church’s stance on same sex-marriage thereby expressing gratitude for the cooperation and the support.
