ECOWAS Observer Mission To UN Partakes In Ambassadorial Meeting On Guinea Bissau

The ECOWAS Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Kinza Jawara-Njai, on Tuesday, January 22, 2025, participated in the Ambassadorial-level meeting of the UN Peace-Building Commission (PBC) configuration on Guinea Bissau which held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The meeting presented an important opportunity to revitalize the UN Peacebuilding Commission’s engagement with Guinea Bissau.
It also provided a platform for Guinea-Bissau to outline its current peacebuilding priorities and seek support from the PBC, while also enabling the PBC to exchange with partners and explore effective ways to provide meaningful assistance for peace consolidation and development in Guinea Bissau.
In her remarks, the ECOWAS Permanent Observer to the UN, Ambassador Jawara-Njai commended the UN PBC and partners for the laudable Initiative and support to Guinea Bissau and reiterated ECOWAS’ commitment to support Guinea Bissau towards a successful electoral cycle and accompany the country in its efforts to promote sustainable peace, security, stability and development.
She highlighted ECOWAS Peace Support and development Initiatives in the country including the deployment of the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission and provision of development financing assistance for capacity building and implementation of socio-economic projects through the ECOWAS Regional Stabilization Fund, the ECOWAS Cross-Border Cooperation Support Programmes amongst others and called on the UN and partners to deepen cooperation with Guinea Bissau and strengthen peacebuilding operations in the country to foster sustainable peace, stability and development.
