The President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, received a high-level delegation from the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) for a strategic dialogue on renewing their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Discussions focused on strengthening institutional cooperation and advancing joint initiatives in security governance, conflict prevention, and capacity-building across West Africa.
The ISS delegation, led by Regional Director for West Africa, the Sahel, and the Lake Chad Basin, Ms. Lori-Anne Théroux-Bénoni, and Senior Researcher at ISS’s Regional Office for West Africa and the Sahel, Colonel (Ret.) Hassane Koné, engaged in constructive discussions with ECOWAS leadership on deepening institutional collaboration.
As a long-standing strategic partner of ECOWAS, ISS has played a pivotal role in providing research-driven policy recommendations, technical expertise, and capacity-building support to enhance security governance and conflict prevention mechanisms across the region. The renewal of the MoU reflects the continued collaboration between the two institutions in tackling transnational threats, fostering resilience, and advancing sustainable peace and stability.
His Excellency Dr. Touray commended ISS for its unwavering support and contributions to regional security, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based policymaking and multistakeholder engagement in confronting emerging security challenges. Both parties underscored the necessity of deepening institutional synergies and enhancing coordination to promote a holistic and integrated approach to regional peace and security.
