Liberian midfielder Devine Teah made a memorable first appearance for Slavia Praha on Wednesday, delivering an impressive performance in their 1-0 victory over FC Silon Táborsko in the Czech Cup.
The 18-year-old, who signed with the Czech giants from Swedish club Hammarby on January 1, 2025, came off the bench in the 56th minute and made an instant impact. Though naturally an attacking midfielder, Teah was initially deployed as a left-wingback before shifting into central midfield, where he showcased his technical ability, dribbling skills, and creative passing.
Despite Slavia’s struggles to break down their opponents, the match was eventually decided in the 114th minute by a Mojmír Chytil strike. While Teah did not get on the scoresheet, his performance drew praise from teammates, coaches, and fans.
“It was amazing, not just for me but for my family as well,” Teah said. “As a young boy, it was always my dream to play for a big European club. I feel proud to be here and want to do my best.”
Slavia Praha Assistant Coach Milan Kerbr acknowledged Teah’s potential but emphasized areas for improvement. “Devine already looked good in Marbella, but he still has to adjust, particularly in defensive transitions. However, he is very strong in penetration passes and execution,” Kerbr said.
With Slavia opting to keep him with the first team rather than sending him to the B squad, Teah’s development remains a priority. His five-year contract, running until 2029, signals the club’s confidence in his bright future.
