The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its dedication to national development, addressing concerns about road infrastructure, electricity, and public service delivery.
Making the commitment through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), at the press briefing, Minister Jerolinmek Piah emphasized that despite challenges, the administration remains focused on fulfilling its promises. He dismissed political criticisms, stating that the government would not be deterred by opposition rhetoric.
“The same people who led this country for six years are now criticizing the very issues they failed to address. If they truly wanted change, why didn’t they act when they had the chance?” Minister Piah questioned.
Minister Piah highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of major roads, restoration of bridges, and installation of modern street lighting across Monrovia. He assured citizens that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance national infrastructure rather than short-term solutions.
He noted that road rehabilitation efforts have improved transportation conditions for drivers and pedestrians, while new streetlights have helped reduce crime and enhance nighttime visibility in urban areas.
Addressing concerns about access to essential services, Minister Piah outlined the government’s efforts to expand electricity and clean water supply, particularly in underserved areas.
He reassured citizens that plans are underway to provide communities currently relying on wells and creeks with access to safe drinking water.
“We promised to bring relief to our people. By the end of the year, we expect significant improvements in water supply and energy expansion, especially along the Eastern Corridor and other regions in need,” he stated.
The minister also acknowledged the challenges of fixing broken pipelines and ensuring a stable water supply in both urban and rural areas but reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving these long-standing issues.
Responding to concerns about the pace of development, Minister Piah urged citizens to evaluate the administration based on its achievements rather than political discourse.
“We were elected for six years. Judging our work prematurely is unfair. Unlike others, we are not making empty promises—we are actively delivering on our commitments,” he affirmed.
He further criticized political opponents, accusing them of hoping for government failure for personal political gain.
“If your dream is for this government to fail, you will be disappointed. We remain focused on rescuing this country and will not be distracted,” he declared.
Despite economic and logistical challenges, Minister Piah assured the public that the government remains committed to national development. He called on Liberians to recognize the progress being made and support efforts to improve living conditions. “We ask you to see the progress for yourselves—roads, electricity, clean water. These are real changes, and we are just getting started. We are working, and we will deliver,” he concluded.
