Boakai Prioritizes Immediate Renovation of UL Campuses

President Joseph Boakai has announced a comprehensive plan for immediate renovations across its four campuses.
Speaking at the inauguration of the University’s 16th President, Professor Layli Maparyan, President Boakai highlighted infrastructure upgrades as a key step in elevating the institution to international standards.
The announcement follows an assessment report submitted by the Ministry of Public Works, which detailed the urgent need for facility improvements.
The President assured stakeholders that the renovations would begin promptly, reflecting his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for students and faculty alike.
In addition to infrastructure enhancements, President Boakai unveiled other initiatives aimed at addressing the pressing challenges faced by the University. These include the payment of outstanding faculty arrears, with specific instructions to the Ministry of Finance for immediate action, and the delivery of two new buses for the Straz-Sinje Campus in Grand Cape Mount County, a move designed to ease transportation issues for students.
“The University of Liberia is not just an academic institution; it is a national treasure. Our focus on its revitalization is a testament to our commitment to Liberia’s future,” President Boakai stated.
The President also called for collective action among faculty, students, alumni, and international partners to restore the University’s prestige as a center of academic excellence in Africa.
He urged faculty and staff to resume work on Monday, January 13, 2025, marking the start of a new academic year and a new chapter in the institution’s history.
However, the event also celebrated President Boakai’s contributions to national development and education, with the University conferring an honorary Doctor of Laws degree upon him.
The investiture of Dr. Layli Maparyan, a renowned academic and administrator, was lauded as a pivotal moment for the University. President Boakai emphasized that her appointment heralds a new era of innovation and progress for the institution.
“As we think Liberia, love Liberia, and build Liberia, let us all work together to ensure the University of Liberia remains a beacon of hope and a pillar of national pride,” President Boakai concluded.
The University of Liberia continues to play a vital role in the nation’s development, producing leaders who contribute to Liberia’s progress and its place on the global stage.
