President Joseph Boakai has called for deeper unity, stronger institutions, and renewed commitment to collective development across West Africa, as he joined regional leaders in Accra, Ghana, for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Speaking to journalists on April 23, 2025 at the Roberts International Airport upon his arrival in Liberia, President Boakai emphasized that Liberia remains unwavering in its support for ECOWAS and its vision of an integrated, peaceful, and prosperous region.
“Our involvement in ECOWAS goes beyond mere participation; it demonstrates our commitment to building a united West Africa,” President Boakai said. “We believe in the strength of solidarity, and we are ready to work hand in hand with our neighbors to overcome the challenges facing our region,” he noted.
President Boakai also extended warm congratulations to ECOWAS on reaching the significant milestone, hailing the regional bloc as a pillar of stability and economic cooperation.
He praised the organization’s efforts in conflict resolution, democratic governance, and cross-border development, all of which have benefited Liberia and the wider region.
While in Accra, President Boakai attended high-level discussions marking the Golden Jubilee, which reflect on ECOWAS’s past achievements and set new goals for its future. The celebrations also provided a platform for member states to reaffirm their commitment to collaboration, integration, and innovation.
“Liberia is proud to be part of ECOWAS’s legacy,” Boakai declared. “As we celebrate this Golden Jubilee, let us renew our pledge to unity, good governance, and sustainable growth. The future of our region depends on what we do together,” he concluded.
President Boakai’s remarks signal Liberia’s proactive stance in shaping the next chapter of ECOWAS and its readiness to play a meaningful role in driving reforms for long-term progress.
