President Joseph Boakai will today, February 3,2025, officially launch the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) VISA on Arrival system.
According to information gathered, the long-awaited government online VISA upon arrival initiative will be launched at its headquarters in Monrovia.
Accordingly, the Liberian leader along with some top members of his government, including officials of the diplomatic corps are expected to grace the launching ceremony.
The Liberia online VISA on Arrival is an electronic platform developed by the LIS to help travelers upon arrival at the Robert International Airport (RIA).
According to the management of LIS, they deemed it necessary to digitalize the institution’s services rendered to the public owing to the fact that the world has advanced in digitalization of information.
Also, the LIS Visa on arrival will further allow travelers to obtain a VISA upon arrival in the country by plane, as the VISA on Arrival or (airport Visa) launching by the UP led-government is the first time to be issued in Liberia.
The process requires that travelers must follow the necessary steps in getting Visa on arrival in Liberia.
When applying online you must have an email account, upload passport biometric component, take a passport size photo with white background, do the payment to the LIS system, receive notification of successful payment by the system and save confirmation page to email.
However, authorities of the LIS informed that the VISA on Arrival confirmation page is not the actual VISA upon arrival.
Passengers, arriving at the RIA will need to display the approved VISA on arrival confirmation document for LIS officers assigned at the airport to authenticate, followed by fingerprints before issuing the Liberia VISA upon arrival sticker within the travelers’ passport.
According to information, LIS VISA on Arrival sticker has a lot of security details meant to protect holders of legitimate passport.
President Boakai is expected to also launch the LIS Re- Entry Permit and Special Cards.
These cards will be issued to non- ECOWAS citizens in Liberia during approved stay without needing to apply for a VISA on Arrival each time.
The Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) new electronic platforms don’t apply to ECOWAS citizens because of the community’s protocols on free movement of its citizenry in the region.
Since the procurement of the LIS Visa on arrival and Re-entry Permit and Special Cards, travelers around the globe are expressing happiness over the entire process.
Perviously, LIS issued manual VISA to travelers coming to Liberia.
