Rwanda’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Liberia, Rosemary Mbabazi, has underscored the importance of unity, consistent governance, and reconciliation in the path to national development.
Madam Mbabazi pointed out the post-genocide transformation of Rwanda during a special lecture at the Cuttington University’s Suakoko campus, demonstrating the potential of government unity and accountability.
According to her, national unity and reconciliation are not just moral imperatives, but crucial tools for rebuilding and sustaining a developing country.
She stressed that reconciliation plays a vital role in healing historical wounds and fostering a forward-looking national identity.
Drawing from Rwanda’s experience, she encouraged Liberians and other developing nations to embrace inclusive governance and prioritize the healing of societal rifts.
Madam Rosemary Mbabazi also shared Rwanda’s experience with post-conflict recovery, pointing to the Gacaca courts as a powerful tool for justice, truth-telling, and national healing.
According to Ambassador Mbabazi, the Gacaca court, which was based on traditional community justice, allowed citizens to participate in resolving genocide-related cases, promoting accountability while encouraging forgiveness and unity.
“Rwanda continues to make great strides in rebuilding from the ashes of the genocide against the Tutsi, becoming a pride of Africa” he shared in her speech.
Madam Mbabazi emphasized that the system helped uncovered the truth about what happened and laid the foundation for Rwanda’s stability and development.
She encouraged Liberian students to reflect on Rwanda’s journey and consider the importance of locally driven solutions to conflict and governance challenges.
Amb. Mbabazi lauded Cuttington University President Dr. Romelle A. Horton for the level of work done in strengthening and contributing to the Country’s academic sector.
She, at the same time, committed the government of Rwanda to work with the administration of President Joseph Boakai in fostering collaboration and development between both administrations.
For her part, the president of Cuttington University, Dr. Romelle A. Horton, expressed gratitude to Madam Mbabazi for her visit and inspirational message.
She urged students to apply the lessons shared during the engagement to their personal and academic lives.
The ceremony was held on April 14, 2025, at the main campus of Cuttington University in Suakoko District 5, Bong County and it was attended by several dignitaries, staff of Cuttington University, and Students.
