All Is Set For LBA New Prexy To Take Office

The newly elected leadership of the Liberia Boxing Association (LBA) is set to be inducted into office on March 21, 2025, at the association’s headquarters on Broad Street. The induction ceremony marks the official start of a new chapter for the sport in Liberia, with the leadership pledging to revitalize and promote boxing at both national and international levels.
Alfred Michael Slocum, who was re-elected as Secretary General of the LBA, confirmed that the election of the new leadership took place on February 7, 2025. Slocum, who was re-elected unopposed, expressed his gratitude to all those who placed their trust in him and assured that the new leadership would work hard to advance the sport in Liberia.
One of the most significant changes in the leadership structure is the election of Arku T. Kortee, as the new president of the association. Kortee, a veteran of the sport and the current head coach of the Liberia Boxing Team, won the presidency by a majority vote, defeating his predecessor Jonathan Wade. The election of Kortee, who has extensive experience in both coaching and boxing, is seen as a major step toward bringing a new energy and vision to the LBA.
Other newly elected officials include Emmanuel Sackey, who was chosen as Vice President, and Abdullah Donzo, who will serve as Assistant Secretary General. The election of this new leadership has been described as a significant move in strengthening the LBA’s commitment to boxing in Liberia and restoring the country’s competitive edge in the sport.
Slocum, in a statement, expressed appreciation for the work done by Jonathan Wade during his tenure as president and thanked him for his dedication to the growth of boxing in Liberia. He also emphasized that the election of Kortee and his team was a testament to the confidence and trust that the voters have in their leadership abilities.
“The election of the new leadership reflects the hope and trust that the boxing community has in our ability to lead and improve the sport,” Slocum said. “We encourage all former boxing affiliates and those who have stepped away from the sport to return and help us revamp boxing in the country. With Mr. Kortee at the helm, we are confident that we can take boxing in Liberia to new heights.”
Kortee, who has been deeply involved in boxing for years, shared his excitement about leading the LBA into this new era. He stressed that his focus would be on uniting the boxing community and fostering the next generation of fighters. “It’s time for everyone to come together for the growth of boxing in Liberia,” Kortee said. “We are determined to build a strong foundation and make the sport a source of national pride.”
With a renewed leadership team and a clear vision for the future, the LBA aims to bring boxing to the forefront of Liberia’s sporting landscape. The association’s leadership hopes that under Kortee’s guidance, the country’s boxing talent will thrive, both locally and internationally, and that boxing will become a popular sport enjoyed by all Liberians.
