Two suspects accused of terrorizing residents in Buchanan with a string of machete-enabled robberies were arrested just 72 hours after their most recent crime.
Jamel Davis, also known as Tripee Red, and Darius Neor, popularly referred to as Jump Over It, were taken into custody on Sunday night, April 6, 2025, during a routine police night patrol. The arrests were made as part of an intensified security operation aimed at curbing crime in high-risk areas of the city.
According to Grand Bassa Criminal Services Division (CSD) Commander Sophie Mantson, the suspects have long been on the police radar.
“We have received multiple complaints about these individuals in connection to theft and armed robbery,” Commander Mantson stated during a press briefing. “They are known for wielding machetes and robbing unsuspecting citizens, particularly targeting motorcyclists.”
The most recent incident involved the armed robbery of a commercial motorcyclist. The suspects allegedly used a cutlass to intimidate and forcibly seize the victim’s motorbike.
The motorcyclist later identified the duo and reported the incident to authorities, triggering the swift investigation that led to their apprehension.
Commander Mantson praised both the professionalism of her officers and the critical support of the community in solving the case.
“We are grateful for the swift response of our officers and the valuable assistance from the community in bringing these suspects to justice,” she said.
Bassa Police Commander William Johnson confirmed the suspects’ arrest, noting it occurred during a targeted night patrol initiative.
“These operations are designed to tackle rising nighttime crime and make Buchanan City safer,” Johnson explained. “By increasing our visibility and patrols after dark, we aim to prevent criminal activities before they occur.”
The police’s strategy appears to be winning local support.
Several Buchanan residents have welcomed the increased night patrols, expressing hope that the initiative will restore peace and reduce the wave of robberies that has gripped certain neighborhoods.
Authorities are urging any members of the public who have further information on the suspects or other related crimes to come forward, as investigations continue and the case proceeds toward trial.
