The local office of the Liberia Land Authority(LLA) in Sanniquellie says 12 Communities have completed a confirmatory survey, in the wake of the increased land disputes and land-related issues in Nimba County.
Speaking in Sanniquellie, LLA’s administrator, Eddie Beangar, disclosed that the confirmatory survey is gaining momentum in some of the districts among the communities and is a welcoming news.
According to Beangar, the 12 communities are the first communities in the county to go through the exercise since the passage of the Land Right Act of 2016 to carry out customary land formalization in line with the confirmatory survey that will prevent land dispute, and conflict, coupled with land-related issues in the future.
“Since the passage of the Land Right ACT of 2016, land dispute and land-related conflicts are reportedly on the increase in some of the districts in the county and that undermine peace and security in the country,” LLA Beangar reveals.
“Peace festival has been arranged between the people of Gblor clan and the people of Baiplay to settle a land dispute that left one dead and several others wounded in 2023,” Beangar dsiclosed.
Nimba is comprised of nine electoral districts with 715 towns and is among the 15 counties of Liberia that are top with land disputes, land conflicts, and violence that undermine peace and security according to the LLA report.
Speaking on the same issue, Administrator Beangar named the Gbayee Clan, Vayea Clan, Gba Clan, Sehyi Clan, Lankao Clan, Gbassa Community, Zor Yolowee Community, Zor-tapa, Payee, Zayglay, Zor-luapa, Zuoplay as communities that have completed customary land formalization process by the LLA respectively.
“Customary land formalization helps decrease land conflict. I want to take this time to congratulate our partners; USAID, UNDP, LMA SHAPE, and officials of LLA for supporting the exercise,” Beangar pointed out.
