Agriculture Minister Alexander Nuetah has led a team at the Gbedin Agriculture Farm in Nimba County.
The Minister praised Gbedin Agro Incorporated CEO Sam Brown for the construction of a dam in that part of the district.
Gbedin Camp Three is among the Ministry of Agriculture-sponsored agriculture farms that cater to over 200 farmers coupled with farmers’ cooperatives that are engaged in farming.
The dam under construction was built in 2004 and was damaged in 2008 during the heat of the civil crisis in Liberia.
According to the Minister, their visit to Nimba was in line with President Joseph Boakai’s mandate to explain the government’s policy on agriculture to the citizens to motivate them to grow more food in the country.
Minister Nuetah named Lofa, Bong, and Nimba, as counties visited by him along with partners to explain the government’s policy and meet with farmers and farmers’ cooperatives.
Nuetah boasted of the government’s decision to reopen the Gbedin Agriculture Farm in Saclepea, Tappita, and other areas across the country.
“The government is working with the international partners through the MOA to establish mechanical centers in Gbedin and Saclepea so that formers involved in merchandise farming can export their rice, cassava, and other crops around the world,” Minister Nuetah explained.
“I want to thank Gbedin Agro Incorporated which is building the dam for the farmers and Nimba is doing very well in terms of agriculture,” he encouraged the farmers.
“My visit covered Lofa, Bong, and Nimba and what I observed is that the competition in agriculture is between Nimba and Lofa Counties,” Minister Nuetah stated.
Speaking on behalf of farmers in Nimba, Brown said the construction of the dam will help farmers produce more food in the district.
According to Brown, Gbedin Agro Incorporated is working in collaboration with Dokodan Farmers’ Cooperative with more than 150 members that are engaged in the production of rice, cassava, and other vegetable crops.
“Gbedin agriculture contained about 500 acres of land; we want the government to help the farmers with agriculture materials to do merchandise farming,” Brown appealed.
“The estimated cost for the dam under construction is US$ 300, 000,” CEO Brown asserted.
