The Ministry of Transport has with immediate effect reduced registration fees of commercial vehicles.
According to the Ministry, the reduction in fees will bring relief to commuters against the arbitrary hiking of transport fares across the country.
Addressing a press recently, Minister of Transport Samuel A. Wlue stated that the reduction is done as part of efforts to ensure that commercial drivers comply or adhere to the adjustments in transportation fares.
Giving the reduction in fees, Minister Wlue said that registration fees for taxis which was US$190 has been reduced to USD75; commercial buses from US$250-150; tricycles (kekehs) from US$150- US$50; while motorcycles (pehn-pehns) remains US$25 respectively.
Minister Wlue mentioned that they are working in line with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to ensure that a technical committee is set up to assess the price of assorted vehicle spares parts and petroleum products on the market to enable the authorities of government undertake future developments or actions in the transport sector of Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport is expected to conduct a 2-day stakeholders training workshop for more than 500 motorcyclists in Monrovia.
He added that the purpose of the workshop is to ensure road safety through the application and observance of safety rules or traffic laws to help minimize the alarming rate of accidents in the country which continues to pose threats to the lives of citizens and properties, as well as undermines the socio-economic growth of the country.
Minister Wlue said that the workshop will be held from August 19-20, 2021 at the Monrovia and Paynesville City Halls respectively.
”The program marking the certification of participants will take place on August 24, 2021 during the official celebration of the National Flag Day of Liberia at the Monrovia City Hall,” he mentioned.
