A non-profitable organization of a team of young professionals called ‘Lift Initiative’ yesterday celebrated the Day of the African Child under the theme; ‘Leaving No child behind Quality Education.’
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Monrovia City Hall, Atty. Charlyne M. Brumskine said being a child is about rendering service and children should learn how to serve in the educational sector.
Speaker Brumskine said that as children, the first priority in life should be education because with that they can be having the opportunity of becoming whosoever they want to be noting, “With education, your way of speaking and reading improves, therefore education is the best legacy for everyone.”
As guest speaker, Atty Brumskine said children should have access to basic human rights like food and clothing and that children should be able to serve in the justice sector adding that those who have the knowledge should be able to share with their friends as well as those who see bad happening to their friends should be able to save their friends.
“No one is too young to be responsible for their elevation, so as that those that already have it should be able to share with their friends,” she noted.
The Executive Director for the Initiative, Eno Inwang, expressed that it is on such day that every African child should be celebrated and explained how the institution has been providing services for young people in Liberia.
According to her, they decided to showcase their kids today and to celebrate the day of the African child by bringing the kids out in order for Liberians to get a feel of what they are doing at Smyth Liberia.
She stated that the organization was established three years ago and mentioned that when they started this organization most of the kids that got involved were from slum communities which includes West Point, Slipway, and Clara Town but they now have children from different areas in sinkor.
“Most of our kids are the children whose parents believe are not actually improving in their reading skills and basic speaking and made sure their parents agree for them to join us every Saturday,” Madam Inwang stated.
She mentioned that five counties have benefitted from the organization which includes Grand Cape Mont, Bomi, Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu and Montserrado Counties in spite of the fact that the organization does not have a permanent donor that helps financially.
“My dream for this organization is for us to be able to make impact in every county in Liberia; by touching the lives of every children, building schools and having buses available for children so that they can be able to get access to quality education and advance resources,” she said.
Lift Initiative is bent on helping children and young people who are in excited over achieving their full potential and creating access as well as exploring the necessity of education and the potential of people from diverse backgrounds so as to enhance the efforts of the government across Liberia; most especially in the rural areas.
Its vision is to have a world in which every child attains the right to quality education, social justice, create opportunities and build a future where their communities can achieve sustainable peace and shared prosperity.
