Former Vice President, Joseph Nyumah Boakai, has issued a statement in Monrovia calling on the People of Lofa to give President George Manneh Weah and his entourage a rousing welcome into the county.
The Unity Party Political leader and constituent member of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) issued the statement on Wednesday, June 2, a day ahead of the departure of the President to Lofa County.
Boakai’s statement followed lingering speculations that the Liberian leader and his team will not be well received coupled with reports of planned protests due to a reported plan by the Executive to deny their son, Brownie Samukai who they said was voted to represent the people of Lofa in the Senate.
The former Defense Minister and his deputies were declared culpable by the Supreme Court of Liberia for mismanaging funds intended for the gallant men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
In Boakai’s statement issued and posted by the Unity Party Secretary General, Mohammed Ali, he described Lofaians as peace loving people and that speculation that the President of Liberia will not be welcomed to the county was unfounded and untrue.
But in what appeared to be a direct response to former Vice President’s statement, the Aide to President George Manneh Weah, Sekou Kalasco Damaro labeled the statement on his official facebook as a shame.
“That statement was purely out of shame. President Weah can enter any county without anyone’s approval as the Commander-in-Chief. We are set for the county tour, “he asserted.
Meanwhile, President George Manneh Weah with entourage embarked on his fourth county tour in Lofa County yesterday.
The President’s Citizens Engagement Tour is aimed at appreciating Liberians across the county for electing him during the 2017 General and Presidential Election in which he defeated Joseph Boakai in 14 counties in the runoff elections.
The nationwide tour is also intended to listen to the plights of the Liberians and to make direct interventions where necessary as he did in other counties.
