The Liberia National Police (IG) Patrick Sudue, has placed a halt on demolition of properties on a disputed land ruled in favor of Mr. Fred Suah until law and order is restored in Ganta, Bain-Garr district in Nimba County.
In a meeting with residents, the county inspector, Mark Gboron; the Gompa Mayor, Amos G. Suah and members of Muslim community, the Police IG, Patrick Sudue disclosed that State security will do everything possible to bring to book perpetrators who allegedly set a warehouse ablaze during the eviction of occupants in Ganta, Nimba County.
The LNP IG frowned at the perpetrators and warned that government will not allow anybody to hide his or her selfish deeds under tribal lines to cause insecurity among peaceful citizens designed to undermine peace process and Security of the State.
The Police IG made the statement with citizens during a mass meeting at the Gompa City Corporation in Nimba County where he revealed that government’s attention has been drawn to the violence and rumors of tribal war between the Gio, Mano and Mandingoes over a land dispute in the county causing the abrupt closure of schools and bringing normal activities to a standstill.
The Chief of Police further ordered the State Security to make sure to maintain law, order and called on the citizens to go about their normal businesses as government is in complete control of the situation in the county.
During the mass meeting in Ganta, Police IG revealed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the violence that allegedly set a warehouse ablaze during the eviction on Dumpa Field.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslims, Abou Doglay explained that the eviction of families by the 8th judicial Circuit Court in Sanniquellie in favor of Fred Suah who were not aware needs government’s attention as well as to recover other properties that were not on the list but were also affected.
On Monday, April 19, 2021, a sheriff from the Eight Judiciary Circuit Court backed by ERU Police evicted occupants of Dumpa Field Community and demolished houses on orders of the Suah family.
Since 2003, the Suah family, Jabateh family and Donzo family had fought through the court system for ownership over the properties after several years when the court ruled in favor of the Suah family which led to the eviction of occupants on April 20.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Francis Saye Korkpor, is reportedly worried about an alleged “death threat” issued by Mike Jabateh claiming to be the spokesperson of the Mandingoe Community in Nimba.
Jabateh on Tuesday, April 20, among many things, accused the Chief Justice of masterminding the Monday’s violence in Ganta following the court’s ruling.
He alleged that Justice Korkpor who is from the Mano tribe in Nimba does not want to see the Mandingos get back their properties that were illegally taken away from them during the civil war.
Jabateh publicly stated that they will ‘Kill’ Justice Korkpor if one Mandingo person gets killed in the violence in the county and threatened that the court to reverse its decision alleging that it has been the brain behind the Mandingoes losing their land or properties.
For some time now, the land dispute between the Paye Suah and the Dunzo families which until 2019 court ruled in favor of the Suah families had been a long running case.
Meanwhile, the police has found Mike Jabateh a wanted person and has invited him to provide by detailed explanation his statement or alleged “death threat” against the Chief Justice.
Spokesman Moses Carter told the state-owned broadcaster yesterday that Jabateh’s failure to honor the invitation he could have him to blame as he will be declared a “wanted man.”
