Some residents of Lofa have described the People Liberation Party’s (PLP) political leader, Dr. Daniel E. Cassel as the newest “Talk and Do” politician that is liberating Liberians from the dungeons of poverty in Liberia.
Dr. Cassel who is currently in his birth county, Lofa County, is said to be undertaking scores of underdeveloped projects; many of which are said to have been abandoned by successive governments.
For instance a bridge situated between the Wozaywoelay Jallamei and the Bazagizia Towns in Lofa County which had been a community-supported project and left to be completed but has now turned into a death trap was promised to be completed by Dr. Cassell to the dismay of the citizens who had turned out to receive him.
An elder identified as Moses Jallah explained, “Dr. Cassell has once again intervened. He told the engineer to list everything he needs to complete the bridge project before he gets back to Monrovia and he has assured the people of the towns to consider the completion of the bridge a priority.”
Dwellers of both towns were seen expressing profound gratitude to Dr. Cassell for what they termed as an exceptionally kind gesture, thereby describing him as a solution-focused leader.
“Dr. Cassel has once again demonstrated to be a result-oriented person as he simply wants to see the lives of the Liberian people improved through a system that works for all of us,” the jubilant Lofians demonstrated.
According to them, the bridge when completed will definitely connect the towns and facilitate the movements of people along with their farm produce.
A group identified as “Progressive Women and Children of Liberia” also welcomed Dr. Cassell and other executives of the Party into Voinjama City and on April 17, 2021, the women advocacy group had a round table discussion with the politician and brought to his attention their willingness to support and work along with the PLP.
The president of the advocacy group, Lydia M. Barnes, thanked the PLP’s political leader for organizing a women national assembly within the party which gives women the space for political participation and decision-making and she added, “Many challenges were highlighted in the round table discussion which centered on women empowerment.”
Dr. Cassell assured the members of the progressive women and children of his support towards their empowerment which include soap making, tie dying, micro loan and vocational school among other key areas that need intervention.
Dr. Cassell sought the view of the women to begin with micro loans to be followed by other key intervention areas and the women happily consented to the micro loans which they said will help them to respond to family needs effectively.
The women were encouraged to sustain the micro loan so that other women can be empowered as well. The traditional council chairlady of Lofa County, Kormassa Bowllie, the head of the progressive women and children Lofa chapter, Dedeh Kotee, the chairlady of PLP Lofa County chapter, Pandora Zaizay, the head of PLP disable community, Rosetta Mensah, the national chairlady of the women assembly of PLP, Christiana Christopher and Kolou Moryalah were among those in attendance.
Dr. Cassell made the promised to the people of Lofa during program marking the launch of a scholarship fund drive for the Community College located in Sumo kupee’s Community, behind the Voinjama Multilateral High School.
The Community College is providing degrees in Agriculture, Nursing Business Engineering and applied Science and Education and during the scholarship fund drive, Dr. Cassell pledged L$350,000 the 7 districts and offered to allow the best performing students serve as beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme as well as presented 288 copy books.
In Tamba Lamie Taylor Council, a historical hall in Statutory district of Foya, Lofa County Dr. Cassell was received and made available to the City Mayor, Cecelia T. Hallie, some medical drugs on behalf of the 11 clinics and one referral hospital identified as Borma Hospital, a faith based referral Hospital supported by a German NGO.
According to 2008 national census , the statutory district of Foya has a population of over 72,000 people that currently has one medical running water facility in the clinic, one ambulance vehicle, which is down now, no administrative vehicle and on the OB ward that has electricity, it is with the support of German NGO while the CDC government is having an ongoing retirement exercise without replacement; a process that continues to impede the living condition of the citizens in the county.
Dr. Cassell made lots of stops at religious centers including Mosques and Churches; participated in students induction ceremonies where he made contributions and promises as well.
