AFL Recognizes 1ST Female APC Driver

The Armed Forces of Liberia’s (AFL) Staff Sergeant, Hawa Baby Sumo, has been recognized for setting the record of being the first female Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) driver in the desert.
Sergeant Sumo had just returned in the country after serving on Liberia’s Peacekeeping mission with the sixth contingent to Mali (LIBBATT 6).
An APC is a broad type of armored, military vehicle designed to transport personnel and equipment in combat zones which are sometimes referred to colloquially as “battle taxis” or “battle buses.”
Sergeant Sumo is also the first female that ever drove for the Chief of Staff in the Republic of Liberia and also the first female that is presently driving for the Minister of National Defense. Courtesy of 2Lt. G. Randy Ellis
