The Head of the European Union Delegation to Liberia, Ambassador Laurent Delahousse, on yesterday paid a working visit to the offices of the Inquirer Newspaper where he held an extensive discussion with the management and staff on the plight of the media in Liberia.
During the chat, the paper’s Managing Editor, Philip N. Wesseh, informed the EU Ambassador about the financial difficulty the media is undergoing and he praised the EU for its role in Liberia’s development initiatives and for also being a strong partner of the institution in relations to its publication of advertisements.
For his part, the EU Head of Delegation Delahousse thanked the management and staff for the reception which according to him was a way of getting first-hand information about the media’s capacity and its viability in the country.
During the visit, it was gathered that the EU is planning on organizing a training program towards the financial viability of the media amidst the capacity building initiatives and expressed happiness in the level of free press the country enjoys.
