Indians Honor Jeety

The Indian community in Liberia (ICL) has honored its longest serving Consul General, Upjit S. Sachdeva, alias Jetty, for his unrivalled services to their community, the Liberian society and to humanity.
The honoring ceremony which brought together hundreds of Indians at the Farmington Hotel on Sunday, February 21, 2021, was organized for recognition of his countless services to humanity, which he started far back, before ascending to the position of Indian Consul General in Liberia. In the wake of establishing an Indian Embassy in Liberia to solidify the bilateral ties between the two countries, Jeety was recalled from his position as Consul General of India to Liberia with the Indian government reiterating his gallant services to their nationals in a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, H.E. Dee–Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr.
At the honoring program, members of the Indian community gave their testimonies about how Jeety is of great help to the Indian Community in Liberia, and appealed to him to continue his kindhearted gestures. They maintained that they see him as their greatest conduit in Liberia.
In remarks, Jeety recounted his struggle in Liberia since the 90s, and how he risked his life every time for his fellow countrymen. He reminisced some of his encounters with rebels during the civil crisis and how he risked his life to serve Indians, Liberians and humanity during the Ebola crisis and the provision of cooked meals to the needy prior to the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic in the nation.
Jeety assured his fellow Indians that, in spite of being relieved of the title, he still remains JEETY; his phone number still remains active and his services still unhindered, describing himself as a man on mission for humanity. He then thanked the Indian government for affording him the opportunity to serve, which he did with passion, an extended appreciation to the government and people of Liberia for the continued cooperation.
A number of honors and awards were bestowed upon Jeety during the program, which was attended by nearly all the Indian stakeholders in Liberia.
