In consonance of Rule 7 of the House Standing Rules, House Speaker Dr., Bhofal Chambers has reshuffled various committees with some lawmakers retaining their posts.Rule 7 of the House Standing Rule among other things gives the Speaker the right to appoint the Chairpersons and Co-chairpersons of Statutory Committees, members of Statutory Committees in consultation with the House’s Leadership as well as Chairpersons, Co-chairpersons and Members of Standing Committees in consultation with the House’s Leadership.
Speaker Chambers, during 7th day sitting of the 4th session of the House of Representatives yesterday, February 2, retained Montserrado County District #15 Representative, Abu Kamara as the Chair on the House Committee on Hydrocarbon, while Mont. District #4 Rep., Rustolyn S. Dennis was named as the Co-chairperson.

Speaker Chambers also announced Sinoe County District#1 Rep., Cryton O. Duncan as chairperson for the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Margibi County District #2 Rep., Ivar Jones as his Co-Chairperson.
Representative Thomas Fallah of Montserrado County District #5, who was defeated in the just ended Special Senatorial Election retained his position as Chairman on the House Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Development Planning, while Sinoe County District #3 Rep., Matthew Zarzar will serve as Co-Chairperson.
Speaker Chambers further retained Nimba County lawmaker, Samuel Kogar as the Committee on Commerce and Industry chairperson and Montserrado County District #14 Rep., Abraham Corneh as Co-Chairman among others.
Following the pronouncement of the various committees’ heads, Speaker Chambers then urged his colleagues to do their utmost best and work in the interest of the House of Representatives and their respective constituents.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister, Samuel Wulue has disclosed that Liberia has now been recorded as the country with the worst accident record in the West African region.
Appearing before that august body yesterday, Minister Wulue among other things named the issues of defective vehicles plying the streets, dark corridors at night and the breaking down of trucks along major highways as some of the reasons responsible for the many accidents in the country.
He however further disclosed that during the year 2019, the country experienced a total number of over 542 accidents, adding that another 265 accidents were also recorded in the year 2020 although he did not point out any number of deaths or injuries.
Also in remarks, the Liberia National Police, Patrick Sudue disclosed that the New Traffic law has now mandated members of the National Legislature, AFL, Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, LNP and some Ministers of government to ply the third lane while en route to work.
He further stated that those listed above mentioned names should also be careful while using the third lane and should also use their official working vehicles to avoid future embarrassment from LNP officers at various checkpoints.
