Top Politician Oscar Quiah Is Dead

A top Liberian politician Oscar Jaryee Quiah is dead. He died over the weekend at a local hospital following months of illness. He was 77.
The deceased was a founding member of the Progressive Alliance of Liberia (PAL) then headed by the late G. Baccus Matthews.
He was also a founding member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) of which he served as a Secretary General.
Later, when the party was transformed to the United People Party (UPP) he became an active member. Later he left the UPP and joined the National Democratic Party of Liberia (NDPL) of the late President Samuel K. Doe as its Secretary General.
He served the Liberian government in many positions, including Local Government (now Ministry of Internal Affairs), Ministry Post and Telecommunication and the National Housing Authority.
Prior to retiring from national politics, he served as a member of the State Council which was organized as the administrative arm of government to move the country from war to peace.
Meanwhile, his body has been deposited at a local funeral home awaiting burial.
