Karpeh Street community in Newkru Town was during the weekend a scene of frustration, bewilderment and hopelessness when several houses were gutted by fire thereby rendering many occupants homeless.According to an eye witness account, the fire outbreak was a result of a shock circuit which destroyed 20 homes and two shops comprising of 20 family heads and that all efforts to even salvage their belongings were not possible as the blazing fire was a serious threat to people who frantically fought to put the fire under control.
Narrating their ordeal, Mr. Mohammed A. Jalloh, one of the fire victims said that the news of the fire outbreak came as a shock to him at the time he was at his job site. “Someone called me and told me about the incident, “Jalloh narrated.
“My brother also called and informed me that our house was on fire as he noticed a thick black smoke coming from an adjacent building not far from their house, so I hurriedly left for the incident site, ”he disclosed.
According to him the fire was already ranging when he arrived on the scene as its blaze was uncontrollable, and all efforts exerted by community dwellers to extinguish it could not be contained, so they called the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) that helped to put the fire under control lately.
He added that they have lost all of their personal effects including cash, clothes, children’s uniforms among other items, adding that the government should get to their rescue.
“We are therefore appealing to President George Manneh Weah, Officials of Government, Humanitarian Organizations, the Liberia National Red Cross as well as people of goodwill and others to render us assistance to enable us start life anew, “he pleaded.
The landlord further stated that the house has been in existence since 1995 and that he inherited it from his late father and added that there are about ten of his siblings who are depending on the property.
However the landlord added that making life now without their property is very frustrating, and he is therefore praying that God sends helpers to them at this crucial time. Meanwhile, for any help he can be reached on this number- 0770901774.
