The standard bearer of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Vice President of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)-led government, Jewel Howard Taylor has warned her government against bad governance.
Veep Taylor admitted that her government is not living up to the mantra or promises made to the people of Liberia and mentioned that the citizens are gradually losing hope by the results of the just ended midterm elections and noted that the party needs to take cue from the election results.
The Coalition which won 14 of the 15 counties in the 2017 Presidential and legislative elections dropped far below its own expectation in the third year of its six years rule by winning three counties thus losing roughly 12 out of 15 counties as the just ended elections’ preliminary results showed.
Speaking recently in Monrovia, Veep Taylor slammed her own leadership with bad governance and urged that they begin to take the citizens’ ‘bread and butter’ issues as a matter of priority and urgency in order to regain the confidence of the Liberian people.
She stated that failure for this government to address the existing hurdles fronting Liberians and the economy which according to her is referred to as “bread and butter” issues, the 2020 senatorial elections results will resurface for the 2023 Presidential and General elections results.
However, Madam Taylor also used the occasion to criticize the formation that brought about the establishment of the Coalition making George Weah the standard bearer which comprised of the National Patriotic Party and the Liberia People Democratic Party.
The NPP’s political leader claimed that the former ruling establishment has been sidelined in the Coalition on many decisions and that has also affected some of her functions as Vice President, as clearly spelt out in the Constitution of Liberia.
Contrary to the Vice President’s assertions, a group of citizens believed to be supporters of the Coalition expressed anger during a recent “Talk show” on OK FM thereby expressing their disappointment in both the Vice President and District # 8 Rep. Moses Acarious Gray due to their separate comments.
The aggrieved callers expressed fury over the form and manner Veep Taylor is making her contribution in the government adding that she is working more in favor of the opposition than her own government.
The angry supporters claimed that most of the oppositions in Liberia attacks are exclusively against the President. “Never a time opposition mentioned the Vice President in their attacks against this government,” an aggrieved supporter stated on OK Fm.
Another caller alleged that Veep Taylor refused to receive a petition from the COP when she was asked by President George Weah to have received it; alleging that it was because of her link with the opposition.
They also described Gray’s comments as wrong, noting that it has the tendency to deepening the existing fracas among top officials of the ruling Coalition and at the governance level.
Others believed that Gray is one of the contributing factors of the bad governance because he has not been able to deliver his own district to the CDC which shows that he is not working to the expectations of his people.
Already, the District # 8 lawmaker is on record for allegedly stealing some of the money intended to fight Ebola in his district couple with the luxurious mansion he has built on the highway at detrimental of those who elected him.
