Liberia, through the Liberia National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – WASH Commission, has asked LAST WELL to retract its claims of providing water across Liberia including its bordering counties. Making the disclosure when he appeared on the LBS Morning Show, Liberia National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – WASH Commission, CEO, Ambassador Bobby Whitfield said the Commission has written LAST WELL giving them time to retract the information spewed about providing water across bordering counties which he thinks is intended to amass more money at the detriment of the country.
The role of WASH Commission is to promote and regulate the development, management of water, sanitation and hygiene services and serves as the principal government entity on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) throughout the Republic of Liberia.
He said if the management of LAST WELL fails to adhere to their letter transmitted to them, the Commission will be left with no options but propose a bill to revoke the operations permit of the American based company.
Amb. Bobby Whitfield asserted, “LAST WELL is one of government’s partners, noting that the company is actually doing great, digging lots of wells as per its duty, but the fact is, the company has not met their claims by providing wells across this country. That is false and misleading and the Commission has informed the company.”
“We conducted a survey which I was part of in most of the counties that LAST WELL claims to have provided wells. I went as far as Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Bong and Gbarpolu Counties and people in those counties are still living in appalling conditions,” he said.
According to him, particularly in Grand Gedeh, one of the counties LAST WELL mentioned of providing wells, people in that county of over 3,000 are still drinking from creeks.
“We have sent a communication inviting LAST WELL Management to come and ratify their claims of providing water to all counties across Liberia. If they do not come, we will have no options but to revoke LAST WELL’s operating permit,” he averred.
