Officers of the Liberia Immigration Service in Gbarpolu County have arrested 10 Sierra Leonean nationals in connection to electoral violence and seizure of the Liberia National Election Commission material in that part of the country.
The arrest was made in Norma Diatornum Town bordering Sierra Leone with Liberia and the suspects have been arranged for court hearings in Bopolu City by the County attorney of Gbarpolu County.
During the preliminary investigation; it was uncovered that they were in possession of Liberia voter’s cards as well as Sierra Leone’s voter cards.
The 10 persons have been charged with violating Section 21.10 and 5.90 of the Alien and Nationality Law of Liberia which states, “Anyone knowingly procures or attempts to procure contrary to law the naturalization of himself or another person or document or other evident of naturalization or citizenship for himself or another person shall subject to a fine of not more than US$ 5, 000 or imprisonment not more 3 years or both.”
While Section 5.90 talks about anyone who enters Liberia at any time or place other than designated by law; elude examination or inspection by an Immigration officers or obtains entry to Liberia by a willfully false or misleading representation or the concealment of a material fact, shall be subjected to fine up to US$ 1, 000 or imprisonment for up to 1 year or both.
