In an effort to get more people to the poll on December 8, Alumni of Cohort 7 of the Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLSA) has launched a nonpartisan Get Out To Vote Campaign which is a voters’ mobilization and civic education initiative for young voters from across four counties.
The five days initiative to be undertaken by 80 Alumni is intended to increase young voters’ turnout, and promote peaceful electoral process across Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Bomi Counties through educating young voters about the voting process, where to vote and how to vote.
To kick start the non-violent election campaign, a grass-root civic engagement events, Naymote Partners for Democratic Development has made available L$472,500.00 to the Alumni of Cohort 7 of the Young Political Leadership School Africa to support increase youth participation in the December 8 elections.
Speaking to the Alumni during the donation process, Alpha Faith Kemokia, the Program Coordinator of the Y PLSA said the donation is her institution’s contribution toward Liberia’s democratic enhancement and helping Alumni actively involved in supporting the sustenance of democracy and youth participation in political processes.
She added that the Alumni are expected to reach thousands of young voters, using innovative grassroots door-to-door engagements, taking bus rides (the institution’s 2 buses will undertake mobile awareness across communities, entertainment centers, market places with assigned volunteers).
“They are expected to motivate and inspire young people to turn out and make a difference by voting wisely and making the best choice for the improvement of the Liberian Senate, realizing that to have a good Senator, you should be a good voter,” she said.

After receiving the donation, Cohort 7, Class President Wellay T. Baar applauded Naymote Partners for Democratic Development for empowering the young leaders in such a great way while also calling on all youths to turn out and vote because voting is their right.
According to her, young people should not be deterred or ashamed to vote for the candidate of their choice and sustain the peace of the country as she assured Naymote Partners that they will go all out to mobilize people for the December 8 poll.
The Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLS Africa) is a flagship program of Naymote Partners for Democratic Development. The overarching goal of YPLS Africa is to contribute to the formation of a new generation of character-driven political leaders that would be accountable, responsive, and accessible to the needs and interests of their citizens and help to shape the future of their respective countries in the positive direction.
