Shootings Cause Stir In Ganta …Several Armed Robbers Arrested

The Liberia National Police is conducting investigation into alleged shooting carried out by a group of criminals (armed robbers) in the commercial city of Ganta, Nimba County.
Normal activities came to a standstill on October 6, 2020, at about 9 : 30 p.m. when a group of armed robbers attacked several market women traveling on a commercial vehicle and made away with an unspecified amount of money.
Speaking about the ordeal, market woman Betty Koleh complained to the Police on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, that the perpetrators who were well armed attacked her and the other market women by shooting in the air and took their cash including two cell phones and fled the scene.
Madam Betty Koleh added that the armed robbers took away the amount of LD. 164, 000 cash that was given to her and her sister to deliver to a relative upon arrival in Monrovia to buy Goods before returning to Saclepea in Nimba County.
She revealed further that the shooting lasted for over five minutes and created fear among street sellers and those that were around the area to escape the UBA Bank old building area on the main street in Ganta that evening hour.
Since the beginning of October 2020, criminal activities are reportedly on the rise in the commercial city of Ganta turning the station as a main transit point of business where people pour in every morning to register cases of theft, burglary, arms robbery and other criminal offences in the community.
When contacted the CSD Office in Ganta, Commander Redeemer Toe, confirmed the arrest and detention of three possible suspects in connection with the shooting and armed robbery on October 6, 2020 at about 9: 30 p.m. in Ganta, Nimba County.
The Police named Teddy Sesay, a Sierra Leonean, age 30, Sheriff Diarra, an Ivorian, age 18 and Solomon Bright, a Nigerian age 25 and have all been charged with armed robbery and sent to court on October 10, 2020 in the commercial in Ganta, Nimba County.
Speaking in separate remarks, Police Commander Adolphus Zuah, told this paper that the increase in crime rates most especially in the commercial city of Ganta is due to lack of operational vehicles to patrol at night in various communities.
