A group believed to be a fragment of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) in Liberia has merged to support the former Alternative National Congress senatorial aspirant, Taa Wongbe in the pending senatorial election.The sprouting group under the banner ‘Conscious Youth of the Collaborating Political Parties’ (CY- CPP) over the weekend announced their support in favor of Wongbe’s bid to contest the senatorial seat in Nimba County on December 8.
The CY- CPP’s spokesperson, Metrice Gontee, told reporters that the youth’s action is based on the numerous contributions made by Taa Wongbe, in terms of development in the agricultural sector and the promotion of youths though his scholarship program in the country.
The CY-CPP added that Wongbe is among several senatorial aspirants that are promoting the image of youths and that he is the only senatorial candidate that can boost of having the highest number of students on scholarship at the Nimba County College University in Sanniquellie.
However, members of the CY- CPP which have already disclaim the recent decision by the Collaborating Political Parties to allow Edith Weh the chance to contest for that seat began their program with a parade through the main streets of Ganta shouting, “Taa Wongbe all the way” under the heavy downpour of rain.
According to CY- CPP the program was designed to show their support to Taa Wongbe that recent decision taken to endorse Madam Edith Gongloe Weh, by CPP is not with their concern and will not support madam Edith Gongloe Weh comes December 2020 in the Country.
Recently, CPP held an election to choose between Taa Wongbe and Edith Gongloe Weh but reports gathered that, that process was disrupted though it later reconvened and Madam Wehwas endorsed as the CPP’s candidate.
As a result of the confusion between some supporters of the two aspirants, Wongbe and his supporters claimed it was fraudulent and that they will not be accept the result as planned and signed by all CPP’s officials in an MoU therefore Wongbe was advised to contest as an independent candidate; a decision he stated that he accepted on the eve of the nomination of candidates’ deadline thereby withdrawing his membership from the ANC.
Taa Wongbe along with Madam Edith Gongloe Weh, Garrison Yealue, Adolphus Dolo and a sitting Representative, Jeremiah Kough are those qualified by the National Elections Commission to contest against the incumbent Senator, Thomas Grupee.
