The Association of Bong Miners (ABM) in the diaspora over the weekend climaxed its COVID-19 relief project by distributing several food and non-food items to its members and other Liberians including the Bong Mines Hospital in the larger Bong Mines community in Fuamah District, Lower Bong County.The three-day initiative which started August 13 lasted for three days with over 2,000 residents benefiting from the gesture. The items distributed which cost about US$44,000 included; 2,200 25kg bags of rice, 100 cartons of Clorox, 6,000 pieces of face masks, 100 cartons of pop soap and a little over 30 pieces of faucet buckets during the stipulated period.
Prior to the donation, the ABM diaspora president, Benedict Phillips along with the COVID-19 Relief Committee Chair, Mr. Emmanuel Chelleh, alias Zodia, both arrived in the country recently to be a part of the donation process.
Presenting some of the items at the Bong Mines Hospital, the ABM president, Mr. Benedict Phillips said the donation by the group was the organization’s own way of sharing and identifying with its members and community residents in these critical times.
Mr. Phillips intoned that having had some consultations with his brothers and sisters in the diaspora, it was only fair and prudent for his organization to buttress the government’s efforts by identifying with the needy amid the devastating role the COVID-19 has impacted on the country’s economy, indicating that the funds used to purchase the items were raised by Bong Miners living in the USA.
He recounted that few months ago; his organization organized and shipped into the country a 40-foot container containing medical supplies, office furniture among others to be used by the Bong Mines Hospital within the district.
The ABM diaspora president further lauded his colleagues in the USA as well as the ABM Liberia president, Mr. Borfelt Lloyd for implementing this project which includes donations, contributions and support in making their giving back project a reality, which is their primary objective.
Receiving the items, the Bong Mines Hospital Medical Director, Dr. Obiazi Francis lauded the association for the donation and stated that the items were timely amid the COVID-19 while at the same time promised to use them for their intended purpose.
In separate remarks, the ABM COVID-19 Relief Committee Chair, Mr. Emmanuel Chelleh alias Zodia, the Liberia Board Member, Boahndao Larkpor and ABM Liberia president, Mr. Borfelt Lloyd lauded the USA counterpart and other colleagues in the diaspora and Liberia for the gestures as well as their able team for working tirelessly in ensuring that the project becomes a reality, stating that it was timely during this critical time of the country.
Also in separate remarks, several beneficiaries lauded the diaspora members and the Liberia Chapter for the timely donation of items that will undoubtedly bring them relief.
The Association of Bong Miners is a nonpolitical and not for profit organization that was established on November 29, 1998 by Mr. Paul B. Samuels (Deceased) and few others who saw the need to continually unite and work together in helping to shape or develop the lives of their brethren and the needy in spite of their religious, social or economic status.
The organization’s membership is opened to all who may have lived, worked, visited, attended schools or had some form of relationship to one living within the Bong Mines range.
