PUL Condemns Clara Town Electoral Violence

The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has condemned the recent electoral violence in the Clara Town Community, District #14 in Montserrado County.
In a release, the PUL expressed dismayed over the weekend violence in the Clara Town community between supporters of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change and Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon.
Such chaos ahead of the pending midterm senatorial elections has the potential of escalating into a full scale electoral violence if care is not urgently taken and leadership brought to bear because the Liberian politics and accompanying civil discourses can only thrive in an environment where political opponents are tolerable of dissimilar views on the governance of the country, the PUL averred.
The Press Union of Liberia latest position comes in the face of increasing political division in the country compounded by far-reaching decline in economic activities throughout the country and pointed out that the Clara Town Violence is the second time that opposition politicians have come under attacks from supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change; the first was witnessed in Grand Gedeh County.
Meanwhile, the PUL is again urging the Weah-led administration to ensure the protection of all Liberians in the exercise of their franchise including the political opposition ahead of the midterm elections.
