While constructing a three-storey college that is intended for “free tuition” in Gardnerville as means of building Liberian’s capacities principally, the less privileged youths, Montserrado County Senator on Monday June 8, 2020 embarked on dividing cash to marketers as his way of empowering them during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sen. Joseph made the disclosure when he distributed L$500,000 to the New Georgia Estate’s Marketers and asserted that his move, is tailored towards ensuring what he termed as economic sustainability for marketers during the coronavirus fight which the senator noted, has ravaged the world’s economy with Liberia being of no exception.
Following the distribution which was the second phase of the distribution, Sen. Joseph indicated further that the exercise is his own way of helping the marketers in Montserrado County because of the situation in Liberia which has adversely affected marketer’s income.
Commenting on how he generated the fund amid the devastation of the virus, the senator averred that the money is being distributed is given to him by government of Liberia as his Liberty component of his salary and benefits.
According to him, he has been saving L$300,000 monthly and had since accumulated five million Liberian dollars [5m] of which he has given L$1m to two market institutions with a promise to continue his project this week.
The lawmaker, nick-named ‘Ebola Hero’ stated further that he visited other markets in rural Montserrado County and other suburbs of Monrovia to benefit from the similar amount given.
Clarifying, he said, “Some of the marketers are surviving from this same business they are doing. This money given them will help them to increase because it is not a loan to be paid back with interest-it is free of charge or not to be refunded”.
