A group of men believed to be armed robbers attacked a resident in the Kpelle Town Community on the S.D. Cooper Road in Paynesville during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 30 thereby stabbing him three times in his back and making away with several valuables.
Reports gathered said, while the victim and his wife were asleep between 3:00-4:00 A.M. there was heavy sound on their door and before they figure out who their guests were, they saw three men in the room; one dressed in army uniform carrying a firearm while the others were dressed like ninjas holding light weapons.
“Immediately they entered the room, they started beating on my wife and I to keep us under control; in that process, they stabbed me three times in the back with a screwdriver before slapping me with the flat part of the cutlass on my eye; as you can see the bruises,” the victim said displaying his face as well as his back.
“They also shot two rounds in our room but as God would have it, none of the bullets touched us. It was then that they started asking for everything we have in the house including the clothes that I wore earlier, the television and all our savings,” he added.
The victim strongly believed that he was setup by someone who knew him and pointed out, “If the house does not sell you, no one will buy you.” Giving reason for insinuations, he stressed, “If no told them about me, how they knew that I had something in my clothes?”
Some of the community dwellers admitted that they heard the couple screaming for help but could not go to their rescue because the robbers were armed with firearms, which was evidence by the shooting that went on in the neighborhood.
They also said, as soon as the robbers left the vicinity they rushed to the house straightaway to see how the couple were faring and discovery the man lying in a pool of blood that has been oozing from his body due to the stabbing.
This attack is the latest of a series of armed robbery incidences that have been terrorizing the community in the last two years; one of the cases involved an elderly woman who was not just robbed but was also raped by the individuals who could be her grandchildren.
After committing that horrendous atrocity that night, the robbers were apprehended by the community watch team headed by Jacob K. Johnson, a well-trained scout commissioner who later handed them over to the LNP Depot behind the S.K.D. Sports Complex.
As if that was not sufficient, a money exchanger identified as Telve was also victimized by armed robbers in the community sometime last year and they made away with several thousands of dollars in both the Liberian and United States currencies.
At the beginning of 2020, a Fulani operating a tea shop at the Michael K. Francis Road, formerly known as the Chucky Taylor Road was also another prey of armed robbers who were later intercepted by the LNP and after some exchanges of firearms, four of them were captured with some of them identified by community dwellers as dirt collectors and sand miners working in the same community.
