This paper has reliably learnt that confusion has ensued between President George Manneh Weah and his Vice, Chief Jewel Howard Taylor thus prompting both leaders not to again be on speaking terms. Sources closed to both leaders indicated that Vice President Taylor is annoyed and has consulted her party’s officials anticipating to withdraw the National Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Coalition from Democratic Change (CDC) before the 2022 expiration date for the Coalition.
The ruling Coalition is composed of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) of President George Weah, the National Patriotic Party (NPP) of Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor and the Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP) of former House Speaker Jenekai Alex Taylor.
Reports say Madam Vice President’s decision among other things is due to the lack of understanding with her boss and principally the contrast views on governance issues.
Commenting on the possibility of the Vice President’s withdrawal, a well-placed source noted that the addendum of the CDC, a copy of which he shared with this paper [Article XX] states that any member party seeking to exercise the right to withdraw shall give the Coalition a 90- day notice formally communicated to the National Executive Committee of the Coalition prior to the date of the withdrawal.
Meanwhile, sources closed to the Liberian leaders have confided that friendly relationship between the Liberian leaders has gotten sour due to what was termed as Covid-19 projects in Liberia.
President Weah and Vice President Taylor are both carrying out separate projects and programs designed towards fighting the coronavirus in the country evidenced by the bill boards and distributed items.
“The President is feeling uncomfortable with Jewel because he feels she is not in compliance with him. She always runs her office in parallel line with her boss. The President has a different program running for Covid-19 called the Weah project while the Vice President has her own projects. For instance, VP’s coronavirus project is taken to students And adolescent girls while President Weah’s is in music as well as the distribution of other items,” our source observed.
When contacted the office staff of the Vice President Taylor, Solomon Ware, said he has no idea while Presidential Press Secretary, Solo Kelgbeh also refuted the report and said, “This is strange to me. As far I am concerned, the President and his deputy are working together in moving Liberia forward.”
