medica Liberia has donated assorted items to the Montserrado County Health Team. The donation was made on Friday, April 10, 2020 in Paynesville, Duport Road.
The donation is intended to support community mobilization for contact tracing, care packages for sexual and gender based violence survivors as well as families of quarantined homes.
The donation comes at the time of the corona virus outbreak in the country and the county health office is challenged. Over the last few weeks, the number of cases have increased rapidly and as well as the number of contacts. By April 10, 889 contacts including 129 health workers have been documented and this calls for serious attention to community mobilization to enable effective contract tracing.
Presenting the items, the Country Director of medica Liberia, Madam Caroline Bowah, said this is medica Liberia’s way of supporting community mobilization during the contact tracing as well as support to the work of the County Health Team in the wake of the fight against COVID- 19 in the country.
She acknowledged the differential impact of COVID-19 on women and girls during the lockdown.
For her part, the Medical Officer of the Montserrado County health Team, Dr.Yatta Wakpoe, who received the items on behalf of her office, expressed gratitude and praised mL for the timely gesture saying, “The need for these items cannot be overstated and these materials especially the ones for contact tracers . She explained that they were challenged with no gears for them so they were going to distribute the items so that they can have the right materials to support their work.
Dr. Wakpoe further stated that the One Stop Center is still open and operational and that the care packages will be given to their office for women and girls who are in need. As for quarantined home, she indicated that this support will help address some of the gaps they have currently. She mentioned that in some homes, they have children. This calls for special care and attention.
She welcome the initiative and hope that we can collectively fight the Virus.
