As marketers in the country lack access to credit in order to improve their businesses, the Bishop of the Independent Church of Liberia (ICCL) Bishop Nimely Jacbokly Donyen has given LD 2,377,825 to several marketers as a micro loan.
The funds for the loan was made available by the Compassionate for Life, American Humanitarian Organization through negotiation by the ICCL Bishop at the interest rate of ten percent payable within 90 days.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony in the auditorium of the Cheerful Givers High School (CGHS) on Red Hill, City View Community over the weekend, Bishop Donyen disclosed that the loan was intended for the third batch of marketers aimed at supporting them realize their dreams at the same time to help others start business.
Beneficiaries of the loan were marketers from the following markets who received LD200, 000 LD250, 000; LD300, 000 respectively. They are, Rehab, Johnsonville, Pepperwulu Town, Peace Island and Mount Barclay Markets. Others are, Barrobo Statutory District, Jleypo, Karluway District Marketing Association of Monrovia and Rehab Auxiliary Markets.
He assured the enthusiastic beneficiaries that as they pay back the loan on time, the amount will continue to increase noting that the loan started with LD125, 000, LD170, 000 respectively and that they were now receiving more which signifies their quest to improve the condition under which they are doing business.
He urged the marketers to always be appreciative of the donors’ effort that is undoubtedly impacting their lives saying that some people went to the markets and made negative comments against the many meaningful initiatives that have been funded by his partners.
According to him, they are condemning what he called life-changing projects for the people like those market buildings, micro loans among others.
“If someone built more than five market buildings in some communities and someone refers to them as nothing, then I believe that something is wrong with that individual,” he indicated.
The ICCL Prelate explained that when he went to the USA in May 2018, he lobbied and got a pledge of US$30,000 for Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Current for Red Hill and its environs but politicians are now stumbling blocks to the implementation of those projects.
“My donor gave me more than US$19,000 which I spent and brought water here which is being sold against the intended purpose,” he stressed.
He however told the beneficiaries that it is their constitutional rights to safe drinking water, public toilets, electricity and vocational training centers among other services so that they should stand up and speak against those who are denying them the essentials of life but if they continue to remain silent, then it’s an indication that they do not appreciate the donors’ gestures.
“Tell those who won the 2017 Elections to please let us have peace of mind because God wants to bless the communities,” he said.
Beneficiaries James C. Diggs, Peace Island and Superintendent Sue B. Kanu, Pepperwulu Town Markets who spoke on behalf of their colleagues appreciated the Bishop Donyen and partners for bringing improvement in their businesses including their families’ lives.
According to them, they used to sell in the open on the ground but now they sell in decent structures and their purchasing power has also increased amazingly.
“Some of us have begun supplying goods while others have diversified their activities with the intent of opening shops in the future,” they attested.
