A former Representative candidate of 2017 in Pleebo Sodoken District has declared his intention to contest Liberia’s 2029 presidential and representative elections in Maryland County District 2.
He cited what he described as the poor performance of Rep. Anthony F. Williams as his reason for running.
Jasper J.B. Hne made the disclosure during a radio interview on March 13, 2025, on the Voice of Pleebo radio talk show in Maryland County.
However, Hne stated that during the 2023 election year, he had initially decided to contest but was confronted by the Council of Chiefs, who urged him to step aside and allow Rep. Williams to run unopposed.
According to him, he supported the current district lawmaker under the influence of Senator James P. Biney. However, he now believes that Rep. Williams has failed to govern according to the plans that had initially convinced him to offer his support in the 2023 general elections.
The former 2017 representative candidate explained that he spent over 3 million Liberian dollars to support Rep. Williams’ bid for Pleebo Sodoken District.
Hne expressed that the residents of Maryland County should be grateful to the Rescue Mission or Unity Party government for supporting road rehabilitation across the county through the Ministry of Public Works and with the assistance of the county’s lawmakers.
He emphasized that the Vice President of Liberia will soon pay a courtesy visit to Maryland County upon his return from the United States to thank citizens for their support for the Rescue Mission.
Hne alleged that Rep. Williams is following in the footsteps of former Speaker Bhofal Chambers, who was voted out for prioritizing himself over the people.
Hne promised to work alongside the Vice President to restore Maryland County’s development after years of disappointing leadership.
