A 2-1 defeat for Discoveries Sports Academy (DSA) at the hands of Global Pharma over the weekend has propelled FC Fassell six points clear at the top of the National First Division League standings.
As the 2024/25 season enters its decisive final stretch, league leaders FC Fassell have taken a significant step closer to clinching the title. They delivered a dominant 7-1 victory over Freeport FC, maintaining their commanding lead with 41 points; six points ahead of their closest rivals.
The race at the top of the table took an interesting turn over the weekend, as Cassell Kouh’s FC Fassell continued their impressive form. Meanwhile, DSA, who had been closing the gap on Fassell, slipped up by losing their matchday 20 encounter to Global Pharma, a result that allowed Heaven Eleven to move into second place with a 4-1 victory over Black Man Warrior.
Despite DSA’s setback, the weekend’s matches provided plenty of drama in the top-flight league, with all teams fighting for crucial points to improve their standings. Of the seven fixtures played, there were four wins and three draws, with six clubs settling for shared spoils.
FC Fassell collected the largest victory of the round, dominating Freeport 7-1 at TUSA Field in Gardnersville . In a similarly stunning performance, LISCR FC defeated Shaita Football Club 6-1 at the same venue. Global Pharma’s win over DSA saw them climb up the standings, while Heaven Eleven also benefited from their comfortable win to surge into second place.
The top five teams are now separated by just four points. FC Fassell leads with 41 points, followed by Heaven Eleven and DSA, both with 35 points. The race for second place is heating up, with both teams keen to secure the spot ahead of the final stretch.
As the season nears its conclusion, attention now turns to the upcoming fixtures, with eight teams set to compete on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, for their 21st matches of the season. These games will provide an opportunity for the chasing pack to close the gap on Fassell, and fans can expect more intense battles for the remaining top positions.
Among the key fixtures, DSA and Heaven Eleven will face off in a crucial clash at TUSA Field, where the two teams will vie for second place. Fassell will be watching closely to assess their biggest potential challenger with only five games left to play.
Elsewhere, Bea Mountain will host LISCR FC, Watanga will entertain Freeport, and Paynesville FC will go head-to-head with Mighty Barrolle in what promises to be another exciting matchday.
With just a few rounds remaining, the title race is far from over, and every point will count as FC Fassell aims to secure their first National First Division League crown after their comeback from a long breakaway from Liberian football due to a huge setback faced by its chief executive officer Cassell Kouh.
The club is wishing to dominate at least three of their last five games and perhaps settling to two draws to complete their tasks for championship. This milestone when achieved, might fused the political bases of the club chief financier who has expressed interest in contesting the presidency of the local football house in 2026.
